Technology in the Classroom

Comfort with technology is a vital part of education and is integrated into classroom learning. Beginning around the 3rd grade, students are introduced to and become increasingly proficient with essential technology tools such as word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software. Students also use digital tools to augment classroom projects, perform research and explore new concepts and ideas. We work primarily with Chromebooks and Google Suite for Education, preparing them for middle and high school, which students use to collaborate with each other and their teachers as well as to manage their time, homework, and projects to prepare them to be independent and accountable.

Considering the young age of elementary students, a high priority is placed both on internet safety restrictions, as well as instruction on how to be responsible digital citizens in an increasingly digital world. Appropriate and safe use of technology should be reinforced in a partnership between families at home and teachers at school. We recommend Common Sense Media as a resource for families in navigating the constantly changing world of technology and media.
